Interview in English.

Comenzaremos a escribir nuevas canciones.

¡DOOM ON!
- Gracias a ustedes!!! VENGA!

First, as always, thank you all for giving us a place in your time. A band always has its origins. Sometimes little known, and others disappeared. That is why we would like to know, how you came that moment when you decided to create everything you know so far. What was before the foundation of Windhand ... and how was the process of birth.
- Asechiah and Garrett have known each other for years and had been playing and jamming with our original drummer (Jeff Loucks) and original bassist (Nathan Hilbish) for awhile before I joined. I had been playing guitar and singing on my own since I was in my early teens but had always really wanted to play with other people. I saw an ad on craigslist that Garrett had put up about them wanting a singer and the influences he listed were right up my alley so I responded and met up with them to see if it would work. We all seemed to get along and had similar musical sensibilities and in a month or so we were playing our first show. Jeff and Nathan eventually moved on amicably to pursue other things and Ryan and Parker joined shortly after.

When the name of a band is curious, we always want to know what the meaning of it and why your choice. Were there other before? What leads "windhand", in each of the persons of this band?
-It’s take from a William S. Burroughs poem, and as far as the meaning goes we’d like to leave that open to interpretation.

With many influences on sound and liken with great bands like BLACK SABBATH and ELECTRIC WIZARD ... How would you define the sound of the band? What do you call that feeling that occurs when listening to your music?
-It is a huge compliment to be compared to both of those bands. It’s always hard to try and categorize what we play because when we are writing, we aren’t thinking about anything other than that particular song in that particular moment…trying to make it sound good rather than trying to make it sound like something we’ve heard before. I think our songs are really emotionally driven and they sound like what we are feeling while we are writing them.

Speaking of the music scene ... What can you tell me about the Doom scene in Richmond. What is the relationship between bands there? In each territory predominate over others, some genera. Who is?
-Everyone is very supportive as far as heavy music goes in Richmond, no matter what the subgenre. We all know each other and we all go to each other’s shows. Of course there is healthy competition but it all comes from a good natured place.

With your self-titled debut album release last year, have taken a giant step. "Windhand" was a revolution in the ranks of underground, and was recognized your great work. Tell us a little about how were those early days and the recording process.
-A lot of that stuff existed long before I joined the band. Asechiah and Garrett, as well as our original drummer are all old friends and had been jamming for years. When I came in to write the vocals and lyrics I just kind of went with the mood that I felt was already established. Garrett of course recorded it and already had a really cohesive idea for the sound he wanted to create and it just all came together very naturally.

Many times, quite unintentionally, the bands create a aesthetic profile, and WINDHAND, with their features letters from your logo, images from around the published works... it is easy to detect the color and the typology of the band. Who is the creator/to? What were the influences on the design?
-Asechiah is a very talented artist and we are lucky to have him, he did the album artwork for the self-titled release as well as all the shirts that we sell outside of the Relapse design. Parker did our logo and is also a really talented artist and screen printer and prints most of our merchandise.

In March it was announced the signing with label Relapse Records and publishing as well the second album of WINDHAND months after. How was it received the news of joining the ranks of this stamp? Since it came out "Soma", is giving a lot to talk about, and are getting great reviews. How was the process of work? Do you think notice a change in the sound, by comparing it with the first? By the way, a great artwork.
-Things have been great and we were really excited to get noticed and have the opportunity to sign on with Relapse. The songs for SOMA were written a good year plus before we actually recorded them so we had plenty of time to work through the structure. Also we recorded the album in our practice space so we had plenty of time to rework or rerecord parts. I feel that it’s a more developed work than the Self-Titled. Its more personal.

Let's talk about the European tour, counting Spain, who are taking place. Are you ready to step on the European stage? Travel times, good people ... life and music.
-YES!! Europe rules and really treated us well..we met a great deal of awesome people. There were so many good folks that came from all around to see us and really show us a great time.

As always wonder ... What will the future of WINDHAND?
-Touring around Roadburn in April. We started writing new songs. It’s the same routine we’ve been doin the past few years. Writing, touring, and having fun.

We're done. Hope all you liked it and thank you very much for having a place for us. Way
-Gracias a ustedes!!! VENGA! - Dorthia and Ryan
